About Us

About us Simblox was established in 2005 with the aim of providing high quality and affordable enterprise grade IT services to small and medium businesses.

Our company name comes from SIMple BLack bOX which is the idea that a computer system should be considered by our customers be a simple black box that works for you and if it doesn’t you simply call us to fix it.

We have a number of simple philosophies:

  • Keep it simple
  • Customer service is key technology is second
  • Business need drives technology not the other way around
  • It’s all about people: our engineers exist to help and support you and your employees

Contact us to find out how these philosophies can benefit your IT.

Why IT?

I have been interested in how things work from a very early age and was forever taking apart my toys and putting them back together, this continued when we got our first PC and has never really stopped. After a few jobs that weren’t really for me I went back to what I enjoyed doing, started my career in IT and have never looked back.

Why do you enjoy helping people?

It’s just great to know that you are helping to make someone’s day that little better and hopefully by providing great IT service you can make their job a little easier too.

Your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy getting out and about in the great outdoors. I am a keen snowboarder in the winter, mountain biker in the summer and I also love to get out for a paddle on my surfboard most of the year round. I also have a bit of a passion for cars, whether that be working on my own or spectating at motorsports events.

Why IT?

I decided to get into IT because of the appeal of an endlessly growing and interesting field and because I enjoy being challenged.

Why do you enjoy helping people?

I enjoy helping people because I am an outgoing person and it feel it is important to have a job in which you are doing something beneficial to someone. The good thing about having several different clients is there is always a different issue to help someone with.

Your spare time?

In my Spare time I enjoy playing and watching football matches. I am a guitarist of 9 years and I enjoy playing live gigs and open mic nights by myself or in a band. I am also very passionate about Film & TV programme

Why IT?

When I went into high school it was my first time using a PC and from then onwards I was hooked. I wanted to know how they worked and soon was taking apart my own PC and replacing parts and seeing what does what.

Why do you enjoy helping people?

Helping people I find very contagious. When you fix something that is not working or is broken and you see the joy and relief in the person, it just gives you a nice feeling.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I play a lot of pool and I am captain of one of the Riley’s Team in Aberdeen. I also play Airsoft which is like paintball, great for socialising and gives you a great adrenaline rush.  I have recently started jogging, yet to manage any great distance but hopefully I will get there eventually

Why IT?

After several years of drawing pen to paper I migrated onto CAD, an enjoyment of working in that environment pushed me to decide to take it further, so back to UNI and into the world of Information Technology, initially more to web design that changed to service side.

Why do you enjoy helping people?

As an IT engineer you get a little buzz when you arrive in an office with problems and you get them fixed and working, I believe in showing the client what has gone wrong and If there is an easy fix to get them back up and running which allows for greater communication with each client.

What do you do in your spare time?

As family have gotten to the age I become not a parent but a taxi driving bank, this gives me time for my hobbies, which is sadly Scale Models and an online shop.

Why IT?

More than a few years ago before there were any computer courses in school the ZX81 and ZX Spectrum came out. I was hooked immediately and knew exactly what I wanted to do. This made my school and university course choices very simple as well as letting me drop anything non science related.  I have been working with technology ever since and have done pretty much every IT role you can think of. Whilst I now also have a passion for building a business, technology is still a large part of my life and new toys to play with are always sought out.

Why do you enjoy helping people?

All IT support engineers get a kick out of helping other people (that’s what the job is all about after all) but for me it’s the person’s relief when you sort something that somebody is in a panic about or that penny drop moment when someone realises how something works and how it can benefit them.

What do you do in your spare time?

Running a business takes far too much time so time spent with my family is precious. When I get chance running to beat my personal best is a never ending challenge and Formula one has been a passion since a very young age.

Why IT?

My interest in computers started with the Playstation 1 and continued through school and college. I am now in the process of building my first proper gaming system

Why do you enjoy helping people?

Through school, college and hockey I have always enjoying working with people to overcome barriers to resolve issues.

What do you do in your spare time?

Unusually for an IT Engineers my spare time is taken up by competitive sports like hockey and skiing. In addition to playing sports I also have an interest in motorsport, especially motorbikes.

Our History

Since 2005 we have steadily grown whilst also keeping control of our resources to ensure that we maintain the quality of service that is key to our service. We now employee six engineers and have customers from Perth to Elgin.

Our dedication to customer service has meant that the majority of growth has come from customer referrals and recommendations. We also still support companies that we started with 10 years ago.

Where we are going

Where We Are Going

If a company is not growing then it is falling behind its competition so we are always looking to get bigger. This will never be at the expensive of the personal level of support and service that has made us great so far.

The only way that we can maintain this is to have the best employees who all understand and believe in what we do. This doesn’t just mean technical genius we also needs excellent customer service which is actually more important.

In order to reward our employees we plan in a few years time to become fully employee owned as we believe that this is not only the best way to reward our employees for the work that they do but also to ensure that all our employees care about what they do and always give their best.
